Will you direct me to a spot where I can find a successful (funded) Disney's Friends for Change grant or e-mail me an example from the 1/29/10 funding round?
I am the CEO of a Big Brothers Big Sisters agency and want to encourage our participants to apply. An example would be helpful.
It has been a desire of the Staff at the Reichert House Youth Academy to have adequate funding to enable us to provide training in music, drama, drawing, and other art forms to the youth enrolled at the Reichert House. In the past, we have tried to develop a boys' choir similar to the Tallahassee Boy's Choir or the Harlem Boys' Choir. However, we realize that we lack the professional training to bring our youth up to that level. All our funding is currently being used to sustain the necessary elements of our program--academic tutoring, anger management and other counseling, food for a hot meal daily, transportation from school to our facility and back home each day, staff salaries, utilities, etc. We need to find a grant that would give us the funding necessary to help us locate a professional that would be able to come and work with our youth to develop their art skills. We have an adequate facility to meet in and we have some of the equipment necessary to use with a choir. We just need someone that loves youth and that could see their potential to help the youth develop their natural talents. I am interested in learning more about the 'Learning in the Arts Grants' to see if it would be a good fit for our group. Reichert House has been serving at-risk youth for over 20 years. We grow each year and currently have 120 youth enrolled. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our program and offer more opportunities for these youth to expand their knowledge and participate in all sorts of wholesome activities that might otherwise not be available in their lives.
I am interested in the Water Planet Challenge.
Is there a grant for 2010 to help us with our youth football field? It is in bad shape and we need new grass. We have tride to fix it our self but with no luck.

Funding for programs like PEPFAR, a Peace Corps funding US government program, are voted on every five years and has been allocated for the next five years. The increase in PEPFAR was 2/3rds or just above 50 billion. Peace crops funding and increases are already there and not figured in the funding of Peace Corps during their funding cycle. Other programs, like the Gates Foundation, etc. also fund Peace Corps and are not included in the regular US government funding for the independent agency's funding.
The goals for expansion, the original computations for the funding increases, have been lowered and those goals are not on the way to being reached. They have not increased enough to warrant more funding.
As Director of this Ministry, we work diligently in creating platforms for the at-risk youth.
We presently, have formed a youth Board of Directors. This Youth Board will have the priviledge to
carry out through youth service, different componets that will build a brighter community, as well as
build youth of success.
Looking for grants to help church and the community.
What is this volunteer for?
It is encouraging to see Miley getting involved with a good cause - this sets a good example for other young women to follow. I hope she does more of these.
TeaCup Girls Mentoring Program is located in Decatur, GA. This organization is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young at risk girls ages 5 - 17. Girls live's are being change through motivational workshops, hands on activities, community out reach and group mentoing. The girls in this program participated in community services where they have been involved with feeding the homeless at a local shelter and visiting the aging citizens at a local nursering home where they provided customer service to the elderly woman in giving free pedicures. Also, TeaCup girls participated in a King & Queen Contest at the nursing home where they surrendered their support. These girls have also had the opportunity to give back to the community by volunteer during the M L King a Day On Project where they cleaned the lawn and prepared the nature trail at a local park. Because these girls have been involved in this program their lives have been changed where they feel they are needed to make a difference in somebody else's live.
The americorps website only allows you to submit 20 applications per registered user. You submit them even only to the ones with a red star next to their name and they stay in "submitted" status for months on end. The programs never get around to even acknowledging your application. I've faxed them into other programs when I maxed out my online submissions only to get an email saying that I "must" submit it online through the americorps website. This never hearing from them for almost 6 months now, is this because of the increased competition because of the economy? Or am I just competing with more-recent college graduates and with my date of birth being right up on top of the application, is this a lost cause?! This is just room and board and a stipend that's hard to live on, and requires references and is this hard to get into?!? How else can you get your student loans forgiven if you can't qualify for Teach For America because of a low GPA - just leave the country and go to Canada?! Or join the military and go get killed in the line of duty?!
I'm trying this because nothing where I am now is hiring. I have no car and need to get to some part of this country where I can get around without one, without just picking up and going there and staying in the womens' shelters until something "volunteer" comes up. This sucks. Even this - I'm getting either ignored for months on end or outright rejected.
the link to the full column is dead. Where can I read the rest of this?

Cooking makes lots of fun, and having a freezer in your home can save a lot of money. I usually bought bulk of shrimps when they are cheap, and then stock them in the freezer for later cooking.
The Center for Math and Science Education (CMSE) at Western Carolina University is located in Cullowhee, North Carolina. This part of western North Carolina is known for rugged terrain with relatively isolated rural populations and schools. In addition, this region has a high percentage of low income families which results in low property values and ultimately low funds for public schools. These schools are often at a disadvantage to schools in the more affluent areas such as Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh and their surrounding areas. Budgets for these small schools don't allow for the equipment necessary to prepare these rural students for a global economy compared to the more affluent parts of North Carolina. The CMSE has begun a math and science equipment program (http://www.wcu.edu/25405.asp)that allows schools from fourteen western North Carolina counties access to math and science equipment that they cannot afford to purchase outright. Currently, teachers must pick up and drop off the equipment which precludes some of the more rural schools from realistically participating in the program. The long-term goal for the CMSE is to provide the option for teachers to request equipment without having to drive which, for some schools, can be a 3 hour round-trip. The CMSE would like to provide shipping to/from schools that the CMSE serves. FedEx has a great reputation within academia for providing safe, reliable, and quality shipping for university research. The CMSE would like to utilize these great qualities to better serve the rural schools of western North Carolina and FedEx has the track record to meet the need. Please advise on any suggestions on how we may proceed to develop a partnership with FedEx and the rural teachers of western North Carolina.
Thanks,
Victor Agraz

I would love to partner with an organization to help our community and school to provide our students with programs and knowledge to help prevent students from dropping out.
Our town is very rural and poverty is very evident. Our high school has one of the highest drop out rates in our county.
Literacy is extremely important to our community. I not only am a director of the first after school program but I am also a GED instructor. So, I really see the need for help in all of these areas that this grant provides.
Please provide my after school program with this opportunity to help our schools and community.
Thank you,
Brenda Webb
