Take Action to Support the GIVE Act

Attention AmeriCorps Alums!!! Ask Congress to Pass the GIVE Act!!!

Please sign your organization to the letter below asking the United States House of Representatives to pass and fully fund H.R. 1388, the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act. You can add your organization by emailing info@voiceforservice.org by 5:00pm THIS Friday.

The Voices for National Service goal is to get 500 signatures on this letter before the end of the week.

Green Jobs, To the White House!

Van Jones (who we’ve written about before!) is carrying his drive for green to the White House! He’s joining the administration as a special adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Jones is a proponent of fixing the environment and the economy in conjunction. He’s also a huge supporter of using service as a practical solution of real problems - greening the economy, chiefly.

What Are You Doing This Summer? Internship Opportunities!

College students, do you have plans for your summer yet? Make your three months worth it by interning with us! Be the Change spearheads ServiceNation, and we’re looking for people to help us work for legislation, develop partnerships, work with grassroots communities, and tons of other exciting opportunities.
Most of the internships will be in Boston, but there are several spots in DC and New York City. A limited number of stipends are available.

GIVE Act Gets Robust Approval from the House Labor and Education Committee

Update: The House is set to vote on this legislation Wednesday, March 18th.
March 11th, the House Education and Labor Committee approved H.R. 1388, the Generations InvigoratingVolunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act, on a 34-3 vote. The bill is expected to be sent to the full House for consideration during the week of March 16 and is the House companion bill to the Serve America Act (S. 277).
