America's Promise Alliance Releases Gallup Student Poll Results
America's Promise Alliance, together with Gallup and the American Association of School Administrators, launched the Gallup Student Poll, a nationwide survey of 5th through 12th graders to gauge their levels of hope, engagement, and well-being. As we continue a critical dialogue about dropout prevention and college readiness, it is critical that these voices are heard.
Here are a few key results:
* One-third of students surveyed in grades 5-12 are struggling or suffering, and half (50%) are not hopeful, as quantified by Gallup researchers.
* More than 9 in 10 say they will graduate high school. Those who are close to their parents/guardians, or have a caring adult in their life are more likely to believe they will graduate.
* Seven in ten (70%) said they learned or did something interesting in school yesterday, but only half (52%) said they were treated with respect all day.
