FedEx Social Responsibility Program Grants (Deadline: Ongoing)
The mission of the FedEx Social Responsibility Program is to support the communities the company serves, including international locations, through charitable contributions, in-kind shipping services, and volunteer services of employees. The company's core giving areas include: Emergency and Disaster Relief, Pedestrian and Child Safety, Education, and Health and Human Services. FedEx is especially interested in supporting organizations that request 5% or less of the total project budget, contingency grants, or seed monies with the expectation that other sources will contribute matching amounts. Priority is also given to organizations where FedEx employees volunteer. Requests may be submitted at any time. Math and Science equipment loan program to K-12 public schools
The Center for Math and Science Education (CMSE) at Western Carolina University is located in Cullowhee, North Carolina. This part of western North Carolina is known for rugged terrain with relatively isolated rural populations and schools. In addition, this region has a high percentage of low income families which results in low property values and ultimately low funds for public schools. These schools are often at a disadvantage to schools in the more affluent areas such as Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh and their surrounding areas. Budgets for these small schools don't allow for the equipment necessary to prepare these rural students for a global economy compared to the more affluent parts of North Carolina. The CMSE has begun a math and science equipment program (http://www.wcu.edu/25405.asp)that allows schools from fourteen western North Carolina counties access to math and science equipment that they cannot afford to purchase outright. Currently, teachers must pick up and drop off the equipment which precludes some of the more rural schools from realistically participating in the program. The long-term goal for the CMSE is to provide the option for teachers to request equipment without having to drive which, for some schools, can be a 3 hour round-trip. The CMSE would like to provide shipping to/from schools that the CMSE serves. FedEx has a great reputation within academia for providing safe, reliable, and quality shipping for university research. The CMSE would like to utilize these great qualities to better serve the rural schools of western North Carolina and FedEx has the track record to meet the need. Please advise on any suggestions on how we may proceed to develop a partnership with FedEx and the rural teachers of western North Carolina.
Thanks,
Victor Agraz
