New York Governor David Paterson was honored with a State and Local Leadership Award at the Friends of National Service Awards Reception on Tuesday, February 10 in Washington, DC. At the ServiceNation Summit on September 11, 2008 in New York City, Governor Paterson announced the creation of a cabinet position to address issues related to national and community service. "We all know that true civic engagement will require more than short-term plans. We must inspire lifelong commitments from our citizens," said Governor Paterson.
