    Looking for a way to increase participation in your programs while connecting with the larger youth service movement? Apply to be a Lead Agency for Global Youth Service Day 2010! Lead Agencies are organizations across the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario, or New Brunswick that increase the scope, visibility, and sustainability of Global Youth Service Day by leading city, regional, or statewide service projects.

  • YSA NSB News Item Teaching Tolerance Grants (Deadline: Ongoing)

    The Teaching Tolerance Grants Program, administered by the Southern Poverty Law Center, offers grants to pre-K-12 educators for projects designed to reduce prejudice among youth, improve intergroup relations in schools and/or support educator professional development in these area. Proposals from community organizations and houses of worship will be considered on the basis of direct student impact. Projects funded by Teaching Tolerance tend to be focused on character/moral education, conflict resolution, multiculturalism, community service, and other aspects of tolerance education.

  • YSA NSB News Item Champ-A Champion Fur Kids Grants (Deadline: July 31)

    Champ-A Champion Fur Kids grants for children's health and wellness are awarded twice each year to specific programs with measurable outcomes. The grant request deadlines are at the end of April, July, and the end of October. The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation desires to provide direct support for children in the areas of health and wellness such as childhood disease research foundations, child safety organizations, and organizations that serve children with special needs.

  • YSA NSB News Item International Youth Day (August 12)

    In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared that August 12 is International Youth Day. The Assembly recommended that public information activities be organized to support the Day as a way to promote better awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth to the Year 2000 and Beyond, adopted by the General Assembly in 1995 (resolution 50/81).

    This year's theme is: SUSTAINABILITY: OUr Challenge. Our Future.

    Youth Service Institute is coming back to Washington, DC, October 7-9!
    2009 saw the service movement take center stage in the nation's capital. What better time to take advantage of the energy toward national service and service-learning? In October, Lead Agencies, National Partners, and others interested in the youth service movement will meet at the Hilton Crystal City at National Airport for training, to share stories, and to network with peers, building their capacity to develop effective programs and increase the number of community minded youth.

    America's Promise Alliance, Gallup and the American Association of School Administrators, recently completed the first phase of the Gallup Student Poll - a nationwide survey of 5th through 12th graders measuring hope, engagement, and well being. On May 5 we announced results from the initial phase. Now, we're preparing for the fall round of polling, and we need your help.

    Sponsored by State Farm® and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council® (NYLC), Project Ignition returns for another exciting year! Project Ignition is a grant program that uses service-learning to help address teen driver safety issues. These grants support students in grades 9 through 12 and their teachers or advisors to work together to develop a campaign to address the issue of teen driver safety in your community. Grants will be awarded to a maximum of twenty-five (25) selected programs.
