Before you send in that college acceptance letter…
A Personal Story
The Red Cross is such a large organization that you sometimes question the impact that you can make as an individual. Can we really be the change we wish to see in the world or do we just get lost in a crowd of hope and ideals? Well, I have been struggling with this question since my freshman year in high school. I am now a sophomore in college, and in the last six years, I have taken a much more optimistic view on the world and my role in it.

Looking back at my high school years…
Hello everyone!
Red Cross Month for me in Our Nation’s Captial
So while the rest of my Florida friends are off to the beaches of the Caribbean or a cruise to party I decided to take a spontaneous trip back to my summer home of Washington DC with a friend for some fun. It’s beautiful weather for March, the snow is finally over and the sun was shining brightly today for our arrival! As a member of the National Youth Council and intern for the Red Cross in DC this past summer I’ve gotten a chance to know the city quite well.
Kenyan Red Cross and Climate Change
Happy Friday! I am honored to be able to make the first official post for Red Cross Month…enjoy.
In November 2009 I was able to travel to Kenya for the General Assembly of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. I attended meetings in Nairobi for almost two weeks but today I wanted to share with you a story from the Kenyan International Youth Camp which I attended on the coast of Kenya post meetings.

Chile Hit by 8.8 Magnitude Earthquake
Earlier this morning, Chile was rocked by a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake. The quake caused severe aftershocks throughout the region and due to this, there are tsunami warnings along the Pacific coast. Evacuation of these regions has been going on throughout the day. The American Red Cross chapters in Guam, Hawaii, American Samoa, and Northern Mariana Islands are working closely with their local government emergency offices and will support shelters after the tsunami, should they be needed.
Down the street. Across the country. Around the world.
March is rapidly approaching and with that comes Red Cross Month! All across the country, Red Cross volunteers will continue to celebrate what we do and volunteer in full force in big and small ways wherever that may be. It is a time to continue telling our stories, because that is what keeps the organization going.
This year’s theme, “Down the street, across the country, around the world,” represents how volunteering can take place anywhere at anytime and how a small amount of time helping out can go a long way.
