Red Cross Ready

Greetings Red Cross Youth!
Although summer is coming to a close for some of us, it’s important that we all remain on top of our game as Red Cross youth volunteers. Even though we may not have gone to Haiti or volunteered in Texas when Hurricane Alex hit, there are a lot of things we can do with our local chapters that would prepare us for various disasters and emergencies.

6 Months after Earthquake in Haiti

Greetings Red Crossers! The American Red Cross National Youth Council hopes that your Fourth of July was fantastic.
As some of us celebrated our nation’s independence with fireworks and wearing red, white, and blue, others raised the flags of hope and progress as they remember another day that will be forever embedded in our world’s history.
Today marks the 6 Month Anniversary of the 7.0M earthquake striking Haiti, displacing approximately 1.5 million people  and affecting over 2 million.

When you get a chance, make sure you check out Jim Rettew’s video updates on our response to  Hurricane Alex here and here on Youtube.

Hurricane Alex hits Mexico

Hurricane Alex landed in Mexico around 2:00 GMT, and the American Red Cross has started moving supplies and workers to South Texas. President Obama declared a state of emergency in Texas late Tuesday night, and Texas Governor Rick Perry issued his own proclamation for 19 counties within the state.

Positive Images Conference 2010

Greetings! The British Red Cross is leading the 2010 Positive Images Conference in Gerbaud, Hungary today and tomorrow, so make sure you show some support and check out their website. The main point of the Conference is to explore the role of youth in the European Union in addressing the phenomenon of migration. Although it is too late to attend the conference, there are plenty of cool resources available for download and you can even look at the agendas for the various workshops that are taking place at right now!

Honor those who serve our country this Memorial Weekend

As you prepare for the day’s barbecues and memorial day celebrations, take a moment to recognize the heroes who make our world go round. Thank you to those brave men and women who give their lives to save other people everyday.

International youth opportunities update
